Executive Director
The Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology at UC Berkeley seeks its next Executive Director to provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction. The Museum, founded in 1901, stewards an expansive, internationally renowned collection of over three million objects, along with extensive documents, photographs, and film recordings. As a research and teaching museum, it advances understanding of cultural diversity, creativity, and innovation while acknowledging its colonial legacy and pursuing repair and healing.
Repatriation is a core institutional value. The Executive Director will continue to partner closely with the campus NAGPRA Program, support descendant community access, and uphold ethical stewardship of collections. The role ensures the Museum’s sustainability, oversees staff and collection care, and leads financial planning and fundraising. As the Museum’s principal spokesperson, the Executive Director engages faculty curators, community partners, donors, and campus stakeholders, and fosters broader public engagement.
The full classification range for this role is $138,200.00 to $271,200.00.
